NHSRCL Begins Assembling TBM for Mumbai's 21-km Bullet Train Tunnel

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has commenced the assembly of one of two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) designated for a 21-kilometer underground tunnel in Mumbai. This development is a significant step in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project. The assembly process is taking place at the launching shaft in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) area, marking a crucial phase for the ambitious infrastructure endeavor. The tunnel, which will connect BKC to Shilphata, is a vital component of the high-speed rail corridor.

The TBM assembly is part of a broader effort to expedite the construction of the underground section. The Indian Express reported that the NHSRCL anticipates the completion of this tunnel within 97 days, indicating a rapid progression of work. This 21-km tunnel will be the longest underground stretch of the bullet train project, posing significant engineering challenges.
